Question:
According to President David McClain’s September 9th memo, it states that
effective immediately, and until further notice, general funds may not be used
(lists items). Is the restriction only
for General funds?
●
Answer:
Yes, according to Governor Lingle’s Memo of August 26th, there is a slow
growth in State revenues and therefore the State needs to take action to
control and reduce government expenditures starting with FY 09.
The University
departments will also need to look into other funding (Federal, Trust, Special,
etc) and must use discretion in our spendings.

The UHM
Chancellor’s Office has met with the deans and directors and will be
transmitting detailed instructions on this matter shortly.
